Experiences on the Minibus and a Village Walk

Written by the group

Traveling to the Chigumukire center the last few days has been an adventure for part of the group. The minibus rides have been eventful and full of new experiences! From beginning the day by waiting 45 minutes to try to get enough passengers to fill the van, to getting gas in a pop bottle after running out of gas even though they just passed a gas station, to hauling chickens, sawblades and bamboo in the trunk, the mini bus rides always kept us entertained. The group that has been going to Mkhomabasa has an hour drive each day with our driver, Peter. This area has a desert look with the baobab trees, cacti, and dry river beds.

Both groups did a walk through a village close to their center. We were warmly welcomed into several homes. Seeing the Bible coloring pictures hanging in the homes and hearing from the family of how grateful they are for sharing God's Word with their children, was humbling and heartwarming. Seeing the living conditions, was a reminder about how much we take for granted at home.

Along with the cooks and teachers, at each centre there is a pastor/spiritual leader, matron, and head teacher. The pastor translates the Bible stories for us and delivers a meditation to the children each day prior to lunch. The matron is an important part of the daily functioning of each center. She looks after the health of the children, makes sure they have proper nutrition and clothing, ensures they are attending school, and they are always there to assist us if we need it. The head teacher oversees the daily operation of the school.

It is hard to believe that we have been here in Malawi for two weeks already! Today concluded our second to last day of Vacation Bible School at the centers.

The children absolutely love having their photos taken... especially in selfie mode where they can see themselves! This is inside one of the foster home bedrooms.

Incredibly special... the children singing the Psalter they have learned.
