From Safari Trails to Reflection: A Day of Discovery in Malawi

After a very early wake-up, we were ready to go on a three hour jeep safari at the Mvuu Lodge. Our tour started at 5:30 am, so it was literally up with the birds-who were already singing cheerfully as we started on our way. It was quite an experience.

We saw many, many impalas, baboons, water bucks, some warthogs, and even a jackal. The highlight was seeing the elephants - including a one-month old baby. Then for a little adrenaline rush, one of the groups decided to get up close to a water buffalo lying on the ground. He was furious and charged us immediately. We definitely got into his space!! Thankfully he slipped in the mud and wasn’t able to chase us far as we raced out of there.

From there, we sat down for a delicious late breakfast at the lodge. It was served in phases; women first, then some of the men, and finally a few stragglers that they forgot about😊. It all tasted delicious though.

We then had to brave the VERY bumpy road back to Blantyre with a stop in Zomba for a light lunch. We ate at a cute cafe (Kefi) with an amazing view of Mt Mulange. Before Ron made it to the cafe, he had a flat tire. There were several very willing Malawian men ready to help.

We then travelled back to Blantyre. We made a stop at a wood market so we could purchase some little souvenirs if we wished. Definitely an interesting experience as well!

We had a few minutes to freshen up before going for dinner with some of the Timotheos team members. After a delicious dinner we all took a turn to speak about our experiences and impressions of the trip. Very special moments and memories were shared.

The need in Malawi is great. And the work Timothoes is doing is so important! It truly was incredible to see the work being done here. We hope and pray that the Lord will continue to grant strength to the team working in Malawi but also wisdom to those making weighty decisions that affect the efforts here. But above all that the Bible lessons that these children hear, may be blessed to their souls!
