Prayer Day
Rainy Season 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘄𝗶 🌦 In Malawi, it is the middle of rainy season and that means most families are nervously anticipating a new harvest 🌽
As we were preparing this special Prayer Day blog post we received news of a Tropical Storm Warning from Malawi - this is worrisome for many, especially as the memories of the last Tropical Storm a couple years ago are still fresh in their minds.
Meet the David Livingstone Christian Academy
On Friday, February 3, there was a special takeover ceremony for the David Livingstone Christian Academy. Rev. Van der Bas has transferred back to Holland and he requested Timotheos Malawi to takeover the operation of the high school that he originally started when he felt the need for reformed Christian high school education.
Thank You! Closing 2022...
A heartfelt thank you to all our supporters and donors… review 2022 with us.
Timotheos Overview Video
Our fundraising team in Alberta recently held a Shepherd’s Pie/Baking Table fundraiser. We designed a 13 minute video for the supporters to watch that evening. The first half of the video is overview of our programs in Malawi, the second half provides an update on the recent disaster relief.
Phase 2: Providing food for displaced families at camps
When we arrived at the shelter camp in Nsanje (Friday, Feb 11) we were eagerly greeted by the 1470 families that are living outside around a school building. When it rains they are able to enter the classrooms but otherwise their “homes” are under some shrubs (picture 1).
Phase 1: Distribution to beneficiary families
After assessing damage near our child care centres it was evident that our beneficiary families were going to need assistance. Especially at the three child care centres in the southern district, the damage is immense. Many have partially or completely lost their homes and gardens. The harvest they were anticipating in April has washed away.
Devastation!
Very sobering update out of Malawi this morning:
Gerrit and Bart were able to visit some districts in the Upper Shire area (not the hardest hit area) and even there, Mulanje for instance has 650 people displaced and staying at a local school. Most districts have not been able to fully complete their assessment reports as they have not been able to reach all areas of their district. These should be completed by tomorrow.
Tropical Storm Ana Update
Cyclone Ana hit southern Malawi yesterday and today. Some areas have been hit hard, in other areas the damage appears to be not too bad. In order to get a realistic picture of the situation in these areas, the water will first have to subside. We can be thankful that the rain has largely stopped at this point. We are now waiting for the water to subside. In the meantime, we are preparing for the coming days.
Tomorrow Timotheos will decide what help is needed in which areas. Will you join us in praying for the people of Malawi? 🙏
