Day 15-17 (Saturday - Monday)

This past Saturday we drove through the rolling hills of Thyolo "Cholo" on our way to Mt. Mulanje. The tea fields in this area are stunning. When we arrived at the mountain base we were greeted by many guides eager to offer their services. We were very happy that our driver was familiar with one of the guides.

After a warm hike, (unlike our cooler mountain hikes in North America) we finally reached the Likhubula Falls in the middle of the mountain. At the base of the falls is a large sized natural "pool" with an incredible depth of 60 meters. The deep waters create a perfect opportunity for cliff jumping, which our guide Eric was happy to demonstrate:). After a quick dip in this very frigid water we took a short-cut back which, although rather steep, led us to some spectacular views of God's creation. The exotic scent of the Mulanje cedar that only grows in this area and the gentle mountain sounds were a great refreshment.

On Sunday we left early to attend church in Mulinga. We were excited to see familiar faces and to greet the pastor and matron again. The sermon was about the brazen serpent. The pastor reminded us that we are all the same as the murmuring Israelites. He also emphasized the necessity for us to look upon the serpent as a representation of Jesus. Once again we listened to a talented church choir. After the service we were treated with a quick lunch and headed home.

Today, Monday, we drove ourselves to Kutchire lodge located in Liwonde National Park. We enjoyed a boat safari this afternoon and hope to do a game safari at 6:00 a.m tomorrow. Then we hope to head up to Lake Malawi for one night before heading back to Blantyre to prepare for our departure. We were not able to charge our phones due to not enough sun to power the electricity so quickly sending off this blog post.
