Introduction to Teaching at the Child Care Centres

Written by Rebecca, Rebekah, Danelle and Carrie

Over the course of the past two days we have had a very thorough and welcoming introduction of a childcare center and foster home at both Mbulumbuzi and Mulinga. The teachers are very grateful that we are willing to spend a week at both centres. On both days we have been able to help make and serve the nsima for lunch.

Today we had a very special day. While walking down the driveway to the center, we were very eagerly greeted by many excited and happy young children. During the Bible lessons for the children we were touched by the way they hungrily seemed to drink up the message without taking their eyes off of the speaker. It is quite something to teach a Bible lesson one sentence at a time in English so that it can be translated into Chichewa so the children can understand. This was especially true for the older children at Mbulumbuzi. We sincerely hope and pray that these lessons may be blessed to their young but never dying souls. What a blessing it would be if these small efforts could be used for the extension of God's kingdom even in these far away regions of the world. The Lord is so worthy to be served by all people from all the nations of the earth. We often had to think of the Psalter which sings "the Lord our God shall bless us, our God shall blessing send, and all the earth shall fear Him, to its remotest end."

We enjoyed listening to the enthusiastic children singing their Malawian Psalms, and we have started to pick up on the refrain of Psalm 23 in their language. While they are teaching this Psalm to us in their language we are teaching it to them in ours!

We also enjoyed many games of duck duck goose, soccer (an obvious favorite), net ball, frisbees, bubbles, and also jump rope.

Words cannot express the mixed emotions felt at the end of the day.
