Final Day of VBS and the Start of Reflection Time

Written by the whole team

Friday was our final day of VBS at the childcare centres. We spent the morning running our last session of VBS and saying some final goodbyes.

Reflecting on the last two weeks, it is truly humbling to see how appreciative and thankful both the children and the staff are for our help and support. We hope and pray that the work here will be blessed - not only physically, but especially spiritually. We were touched by the staffs farewell speeches where they reminded us to please keep the staff and efforts of Timotheos Foundation in our prayers, also when we go back home. We ask that you please do the same, as we notice how vital this organization is to these people to meet both their physical and spiritual needs.

Reciting the memory text that we taught the children this week.

The children were so happy to welcome us each morning.

We ended the evening with a gezellig dinner with the Timotheos field workers Florus and Janneke, Bep, and Bart and Leneke, as well the new Dutch group that will be doing VBS at the centres in the weeks to come. After dinner we were able to offer some advice to the Dutch group. Especially some tips on the mini buses and of course how to “go with the flow”.

Following a nights rest at the HomeUp Lodge, we departed on a five hour drive to Lake Malawi. The spacious tour bus was definitely a treat after riding tightly packed in the bumpy Land Cruiser and mini busses for the last two weeks.

While the team is working for Timotheos they are chauffeured in one of the landcruisers or take a minibus. For the relaxation part of their trip they rent their own vehicle to travel - a bus and driver is the best way for a team this size!

We were surprised to arrive at Chembe Eagle’s Nest Lodge after winding through narrow alleys, fish markets, people, and houses, with inches to spare on either side of the bus. We were met with a stunning view of Lake Malawi, straw huts, and smiling Malawians. A hearty dinner and beautiful sunset was the perfect end to another good day.
