Grief - Remembering Ntchayi Philip

Last week a family of one of our children from child care centre was plunged into mourning. Ntchayi Philip, a 13 year old girl who had been sick for the past few weeks and was being treated in hospital, passed away on December 7 from tuberculosis. As an organization we provided the family with a coffin for Ntchayi’s body and provisions for the family to provide a meal to all who attended the funeral, a custom in Malawi. All the children and employees from our centre attended the funeral. Once again, we are all reminded of the brevity of life. May the Lord comfort all those in mourning.

Childhood mortality rates are high in developing countries like Malawi, which is the reason why we provide programs like our child care centre. Good nutrition and education on proper hygiene allow us to provide a better basis for resisting disease but at times these calamities still affect the children at our centre. It is not uncommon to hear daily of this person or that person needing to attend a funeral from a relative, whether it be from tuberculosis, cholera, accidents, malaria, HIV, etc, death is a large part of life in Malawi. Thankfully, through your sponsorship of these programs, we are able to provide the basic necessities of life for many children and most importantly education from God’s Word. We pray this instruction may be blessed to their young hearts.
