Visiting Child Care Centres - by Ron Neels

March 18, 2024

Another splendid day in southern Malawi: 30 degrees and sunny. Another day of flopping around like a fish in the back of a Land Rover on a bumpy road. And another day of stunning scenery, unforgettable moments, and lasting memories.

Among other things we visited the Timotheos Foundation Child Care Centers in Chigumikire and Nyamithuthu. Overall the centers presented well. They are clearly well maintained and well run. Further, our visit crystallized the undoubtable truth that there is a loving bond between teachers and their students: their eyes literally shine when they interact with them. Clearly they enjoy them. So special to see.

One of my personal highlights from today was interacting with the students myself, especially in sharing coloured pictures for Standards One to Five from the corresponding MCCS classes in Chilliwack. Thanks for organizing Janice! The kids were ecstatic and it was so much fun to be part of this cultural exchange!

Finally, it was good to see that the Bible is central in every classroom. Secular curriculum and providing for students’ physical needs are of critical importance but there’s one thing that is more important than all of these: Biblical teaching is paramount. That is the core of what we’re about. That’s our reason for existence. That’s why we have dedicated field workers, program managers, teachers, and school staff toiling for the spiritual development of over 1650 students. May God grant it by His grace, through your support and prayers, and the work of all involved.
